Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Critical Care Anesthesiologist, you will join CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy, a 391-bed Level I Trauma Center and flagship academic medical center in Omaha, Nebraska. This fellowship-trained position offers a unique opportunity to build and shape a growing practice that combines advanced anesthesiology and critical care medicine while maintaining expertise in both the operating room and intensive care unit. You'll practice within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that values intensivist leadership, supports an active ECMO program, and serves as the regional referral center for partner hospitals across Nebraska. As part of Creighton University School of Medicine, you'll also play an important role in training the next generation of physicians through our newly established Anesthesiology Residency Program launching in 2026. The practice utilizes the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system across the health system.

Every day you will provide anesthetic care across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties while collaborating with and supervising CRNAs, residents, and medical students in a team-based environment. In the ICU, you'll care for critically ill patients in an 18-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, managing high-acuity surgical, cardiovascular, and trauma patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, sepsis, multi-organ dysfunction, and advanced heart failure requiring therapies such as ECMO and Impella. You'll participate in multidisciplinary rounds, coordinate complex patient care, and collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, trauma surgeons, and other specialists to deliver exceptional outcomes. Your schedule is thoughtfully designed to preserve both clinical excellence and work-life balance, with 7-day ICU coverage blocks followed by a 7-day recovery week, complemented by 5-day operating room blocks with no routine OR call obligation.

To be successful in this role, you will be a fellowship-trained Critical Care Anesthesiologist who is passionate about caring for complex, critically ill patients while advancing academic medicine. You'll enjoy teaching anesthesiology residents and medical students through an academic appointment with Creighton University School of Medicine, helping develop critical care and anesthesia curricula, participating in research and quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to future fellowship development if desired. This role is ideal for physicians who value innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the opportunity to build a premier academic critical care anesthesiology program while maintaining a balanced and rewarding clinical practice.

We offer a highly competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support your career and well-being. This includes a starting bonus or education stipend, 13 weeks of paid time off, a generous CME allowance, a 401(k) with employer match, relocation assistance, paid malpractice insurance with tail coverage, and reimbursement for medical licensure expenses. Our comprehensive package allows you to focus on providing exceptional patient care while enjoying outstanding work-life balance and long-term career support.
