Job Summary and Responsibilities

 As the Associate Program Director (APD) for the St. Rose Dominican Internal Medicine Residency Program, you will serve as a key pedagogical leader, supporting the Program Director in the delivery of a high-quality, ACGME-compliant training experience that mirrors our mission to make the healing presence of God known.

Every day you will champion competency-based medical education (CBME), fostering an academic culture where residents develop the clinical acumen and leadership skills necessary to serve vulnerable populations and address systemic healthcare disparities.

To be successful in this role, you will lead the Internal Medicine Continuity Clinic and Primary Care Track, ensuring that our training environment is rooted in humankindness and dedicated to advancing health equity. 

  • Key Responsibilities

1. Program Leadership and Strategic Administration

  • Mission-Driven Stewardship: Partner with the Program Director to advance the program’s strategic objectives, ensuring alignment with CommonSpirit’s commitment to social justice and innovative, equitable healthcare delivery.
  • ACGME Regulatory Excellence: Maintain rigorous compliance with ACGME Internal Medicine Program Requirements. Provide administrative oversight for the 36-month longitudinal primary care experience, ensuring strict adherence to supervision ratios and faculty-learner engagement standards.
  • Accreditation Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert during the Annual Program Evaluation (APE), self-study processes, and Accreditation Data System (ADS) updates.
  • Talent Acquisition: Participate in the recruitment and onboarding process, particularly for the primary care track residents, seeking diverse talent committed to our organizational values.

 

2. Continuity Clinic Leadership: Championing Equitable Whole-Person Care

  • Clinical Operational Oversight: Direct all operational and educational functions of the continuity clinic, ensuring workflows prioritize patient-centered care and dignity.
  • Advancing Health Equity: Implement a robust ambulatory curriculum focused on closing equity-related gaps in care, including the management of chronic disease, social determinants of health (SDOH), and behavioral health integration.
  • Competency Integration: Monitor clinic-based Milestones assessments, integrating formative data into semiannual resident evaluations to ensure trainees progress toward autonomous, high-quality practice.
  • Interprofessional Collaboration: Serve as a lead partner to nursing, pharmacy, and administrative staff to optimize interprofessional team-based care models within the ambulatory clinic. Work in partnership with the Market Medical Director, Primary Care and Ambulatory Services, Dignity Health Medical Group Nevada, to ensure the NLV practice complies with DHMGN rules and regulations. 

 

3. Curriculum Innovation and Pedagogical Oversight

 

  • Evidence-Based Curricular Design: Develop and refine an ambulatory curriculum that operationalizes ACGME core competencies, with a focus on systems-based practice, patient safety, and quality improvement (QI).
  • Innovative Methodology: Utilize advanced educational strategies, including high-fidelity simulation, case-based learning, and interprofessional clinical rotations to enhance trainee engagement and outcomes.



4. Resident Evaluation, Coaching, and Mentorship

 

  • Clinical Competency Committee (CCC): Serve as a core member of the CCC, providing sophisticated, data-driven assessments of resident progression.
  • Individualized Professional Development: Provide longitudinal academic advising, creating personalized learning plans that help residents discover connections between their professional purpose and our organizational mission.

 

5. Faculty Development and Scholarly Engagement

  • Cultivating Clinical Educators: Lead faculty development workshops focused on effective clinical supervision, equitable feedback mechanisms, and optimizing the teaching-learning environment.
  • Advancing Scholarly Activity: Mentor residents in scholarly work and quality improvement projects, specifically focusing on population health and initiatives that impact the diverse communities served by the CommonSpirit ministry.

 

6. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Clinical Exemplar: Maintain a clinical practice at Dignity Health North Las Vegas, providing high-quality, compassionate primary care that serves as the gold standard for resident observation.
  • Supervisory Standards: Provide oversight consistent with the principles of progressive resident autonomy and rigorous ACGME safety standards.

 

 

Job Requirements

Required

 

  • Board certification in Internal Medicine (ABIM or AOBIM) required.
  • Minimum of three years of post-residency clinical experience in a primary care general internal medicine setting.
  • Proven experience in GME teaching, residency administration, or academic leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ambulatory medicine and the development of curricula focusing on health equity and population health.
